Is it necessary to set the shower base in mortar or epoxy? No. The shower base is designed to rest directly on the subfloor. Only if the floor is unlevel would mortar or leveling compound be needed.

However, in showers with tile floors, the shower pan is not exposed but actually sits beneath the tile. So, if you wanted to replace the shower pan on one of these showers, you would have to remove the tile flooring to access the shower pan.

Place the shower tray onto the cement bed and apply gentle pressure with the palm of the hand to bed the tray into position. Level the tray and allow to set. When shower tray is set remove the remainder of the protective plastic film and connect the waste pipe and check for leakage.
